★★★★★☆☆

Title: The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender
Author: Leslye Walton
Genre: Fiction / Fantasy / Young Adult     Pages: 301
First published: 2014
Edition: Paperback, published in 2014 by Walker Books

This novel is beautifully written, it’s whimsical and it is very good. I really liked it, but unfortunately I did not love it as much as I wanted to.

I did love the characters, especially Ava, Henry and Gabe, and I thought the author did a great job in bringing these strange characters to life. I also liked the way she handled the darker events in this tale.

I have nothing bad to say about this book, apart from the fact that I wished it made me feel more whilst reading it. Having said that, I have a feeling that this story about a girl born with wings and her family, may be one of those books that grows in memory. It’s not a book that I will forget in a hurry.

If you like whimsical, slightly odd books, this one may be right up your street!
