Book Thoughts: The Dream Thieves (Maggie Stiefvater)

Stiefvater. Maggie - The Dream Thieves

Title: The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2)
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Genre: Fiction / YA / Paranormal    Pages: 450
First published: 2013
Edition: Paperback, published by Scholastic in 2013

Blue didn’t mean to fall for the Raven Boys, but she has – and the more her life entwines with theirs, the more dangerous it becomes.

This sequel is as good as the first book, if not better, which makes me so happy that I finally picked up this series.

The plot and story feel fresh and original, the characters are well thought out and it’s not drenched in unnecessary romance, which so many Young Adult fiction is. I love the way Maggie Stiefvater writes, with a continued air of mystery and in a way it always feels a little distant. which really works here in my opinion. It’s what sustains that mystery, in the story and in our characters. I got a little confused at some point, but that passed quickly enough.

The relationships between the four friends are interesting and dynamic, but even all the side characters were fascinating to me. They all have their secrets and their idiosyncracies.

Having read the first two books in the series now, I already know this is a series I will re-read in the future. This easily transcends most of the YA I have read.
