WWW Wednesday: 29 December 2021

The last WWW of the year! Wow! It’s been an interesting reading year with lots of slumps and reading spurts. Uneven at best! But lots of good books were read and I can’t complain.

We are have my best friend and her husband over for New Year’s Eve to ring in the New Year with booze and snacks, so that should be a fun time.

I have my COVID booster booked in for next week, so let’s bring on 2022!

WWW Wednesdays’ home is at Sam’s blog Taking On A World of Words. Check it out!

The three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you will read next?

What am I currently reading?

I am reading two of the used books I bought earlier this month, before we went into another lockdown. I am reading Transcription by Kate Atkinson. I read Life After Life and loved that book, but I had heard mixed things about this one. I am about 200 pages (almost two thirds of the way) in and it’s ok. I am not loving it so far. It really depends on where it goes from here.

I am listening to Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I am enjoying the listen – the narrator seems to do a great job! I am about a third in, so I won’t get that one finished before the New Year.

What did I recently finish reading?

I actually finished up four books, so I am very pleased with that. I finally finished The Middle East by Bernard Lewis. It was very educational, and I am glad I read it.

I also read The Crown Ain’t Worth Much, which is a poetry collection by Hanif Abdurraqib. I love his writing, so it was pretty much a given that I would love that one.

I read a wintery romance on my Kindle, which was Love Heart Lane by Christie Barlow. That one was pretty decent and I enjoyed it, despite a bit of a dip in the plot around the middle part.

Finally, I finished Nobody Ever Asked Me About The Girls by music journalist Lisa Robinson. Well, Lisa, having read this book. I can see why! The author is one bitter lady, I can tell you that. It was fascinating enough to finish, so I give her that, but wow… Such negativity! I mean, I am no fan of Taylor Swift or Madonna, but I was firmly on their side here! Needless to say, I unhauled this book!

What do I think I will be reading next?

Well, I plan to read mostly 2021 purchases in January. That’s the only plan I have! I am currently drawing up a reading journal for 2022. I am also making a list of 22 books to read in 2022 and for once I am only putting Kindle books on there, as my Kindle is overflowing with books I kept buying for 99p in their sales – to be fair to me, most of them were books that I actually wanted to read. I am using 2022 as an opportunity to get to those. I tend to be much better at picking up physical books.

I will do a post on my 2022 reading plans very soon! Maybe tomorrow?

  1. Transcription is in my TBR pile, bought some time ago for the very same reason as well. I hope it picks up. I’m going to try to read more books from my TBR pile in 2022 but they may have to close down NetGalley and Waterstones to enable me to do it! I’m already looking at a few reading challenges for next year and I’m going to try to pick books from my TBR pile for those.

  2. Yay, for your booster! Mine is scheduled for next week too! I really wish you the best of luck with your 2022 reading goals. I’m going to try really hard to not request as many ARC’s & read my own books! I did really well with that part of last year and then let it all go the last half. haha. Have a Happy New Year!

  3. Oh I hear you on those pesky 99p Kindle books! My plan is to read all my NetGalleys for the month early then do some of those – except one of my NG books is the equivalent of a great big tome!
