(audio) Book Thoughts: The ABC Murders (Agatha Christie)

Just a really good mystery novel!

★★★★★★☆

Title: The ABC Murders
Author: Agatha Christie
Narrator:
Hugh Fraser
Genre:
Fiction / Mystery / Modern Classic
First published: 1936
Edition: Audio & Hardback, published by HarperCollins in 2018

There’s a serial killer on the loose. His macabre calling card is to leave the ABC Railway guide beside each victim’s body. But if A is for Alice Asher, bludgeoned to death in Andover; and B is for Betty Bernard, strangled with her belt on the beach at Bexhill; then who will Victim C be?

It was in June 1935 that I came home from my ranch in South America for a stay of about six months.

There are times that I just need to listen to an Agatha Christie and this was one of those times. I have found I do much better with them when I read them via audio. This one was narrated by Hugh Fraser, who always does an amazing job with them.

This was definitely one of the less quaint ones. Multiple murders and we have a serial killer on our hands! Of course it is up to Poirot to sort out fact from fiction. This was one of the strongest Christies I have read. The pacing was really good and it kept my interest all the way through.

I may have been a little disappointed with the conclusion. Although I did not fall for the red herrings, I did not quite feel the solution was completely satisfying. But that is only a minor complaint and I thoroughly enjoyed myself all the way through.
