I felt the first book did not have enough space, but I feel this second book in the Red Rising series seem to have the opposite problem. It simply drifted too far into the sci-fi spectrum for my tastes.
I suppose I would not have minded if I had felt more connected to the characters, but I really had trouble in that regard with this book. I did not feel the connection to Darrow and some of his friends that I did have in the first book and that was quite frustrating to me.
Having said that, I felt the plot was pretty good. You never knew quite who to trust and there were enough twists to keep me reading.
I think this is a good book, but it simply is not quite for me. However, I did tell my husband to read it. I have a feeling he will enjoy it much more than I did. So though the Red Rising series is not quite my thing, I can see why others do love it.
I am not sure whether I will be reading the final book in the series. The ending does sort of want to make me want to find out where the tale could go next, but it certainly is not a priority. I do hate leaving a series unfinished though… I will have a think about it!
