I think I may just have closed one of my favourite books of the year so far. It took me a few chapters to get into Miller’s writing style and to connect to Circe, but once I did I absolutely loved the journey she took me on.
I love mythology and I recognised many of the characters that make an appearance in Circe. Miller manages to interweave a whole bunch of Greek myths seen through the experiences of Circe, daughter of Helios. I was surprised how familiar I was with many of those myths, and I really enjoyed coming at them from a slightly different perspective. But it is Circe and her strengths and flaws that made me fall in love with it.
Even if you are not familiar with Greek mythology, you will still enjoy this book. It is beautifully written and the story flows very well.
It was not perfect, but overall I this was a wonderfully executed book that I would like to read again at some point. I am also looking forward to picking up The Song of Achilles some time soon.
On a side note: this hardback edition is absolutely glorious!

Lola Et La Vie 
I read it recently and my blog is up on Wednesday for it. I loved it (spoiler alert) and totally agree, I had absolutely zilch knowledge of Greek Myths but loved this. I saw Madeline Miller speak recently at the British Museum about Greek Myths in the modern day. I had just finished reading Circe the day before and gushed at her like a mad woman when she signed my book!
I can imagine! Sounds like a really interesting talk as well. 🙂

I’m pretty certain it’ll be on mine! Kamila Shamsie was also at the talk and spoke about her book Home Fire, have you read that? I think that will be one of my favourites too!
I haven’t read it, but I keep hearing such good things about it. It sounds really interesting and very current. I may well read that soon if I get a chance.
